About Margaret McNamara Education Grants 2019:

Margaret McNamara Education Grants, a nonprofit public charity founded in 1981 is offering two education grants in the memory of Margaret Craig McNamara, who dedicated her life to improving the lives of underserved women and children at home and overseas. Margaret McNamara Education Grants seek to award women from developing and middle-income countries who, upon obtainment of their degree, intend to return to or remain in their countries, or other developing countries, and work to improve the lives of women and/or children.

There are two Education Grants open for applications at the moment:

US-Canada – For Indian women enrolled as a full-time student in a US or Canadian University

Trinity Washington University – For Indian women enrolled as a full-time student at Trinity Washington University.

 

Eligibility Criteria for Margaret McNamara Education Grants 2019:

Eligibility Criteria for US-Canada grant: 

  • Be an Indian woman at least 25 years old at the time of the application
  • Be enrolled (not just accepted) at an accredited academic institution in the US or Canada and plan to be enrolled for a full academic term after award of the grant
  • Not hold US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) or Canadian citizenship or Canadian landed immigrant status

Eligibility Criteria for Trinity College Washington grant:

  • Be an Indian woman at least 25 years old at the time of the application
  • Be enrolled (not just accepted) at Trinity College Washington and plan to be enrolled for a full academic term after award of the grant
  • US citizens or permanent residents can also apply.

 

Awards and benefits:

Selected scholars will receive education grants of up to USD 15,000

 

 

How to apply for Margaret McNamara Education Grants 2019?

To apply for either of the programs, follow the below steps: 

Step 1: Go to the application page and log in or register.
Step 2: Select the program the candidate wishes to apply for.
Step 3: Fill in all the details and upload the required documents.
Step 4: Submit the application.

 

 

Documents required for the Margaret McNamara Education Grants 2019:

Following documents are requested during the application process: 

  • Passport Copy.
  • Most recent proof of official registration from the university.
  • Most recent official university transcripts and/or reports.
  • Visa page or study permit page within the current passport.
  • 2 Letters of Reference.

 

Important dates:

The application period is from September 15 to January 15.

Q. Why is Margaret McNamara Education Grants for women from developing countries?
A.
 Our mission is to assist women from developing countries who are pursuing their education with the aim of improving the lives of women and children in their countries. We are one of the few organizations who provide financial assistance to such women.

Q. Can I apply if I am a part-time student?
A.
 Part-time students in the South African and Latin American programs may apply. Applicants must be full-time students to be considered eligible in the US/Canada program.

Q. Can men apply?
A. Self-identifying women are welcome to apply.

Q. Is there a fee to apply for a grant?
A.
 Margaret McNamara Education Grants does not charge any application or processing fee.

Q. What is a “full academic term”?
A.
 This is understood as one academic grading period at your university, whether a semester, quarter or known by another name, depending on the countries where MMEG has programs.

Q. How much money is provided in a grant from Margaret McNamara Education Grants?
A.
 In past years, grants of up to USD 15,000 have been awarded in the US/Canada program, and USD 7000 in Africa, Latin America, and Trinity programs. Grant amounts may vary, based on exchange rates and availability of funds.

Q. Can I apply more than once?
A.
 If unsuccessful in obtaining a grant, applicants may re-apply in the future.

Q. Can I receive the grant more than once?
A.
 Recipients of the Margaret McNamara Education Grants grant are eligible to receive the grant only once.

Q. When will I be notified about the outcome of the application?
A.
 ONLY the semi-finalists are contacted for a telephone interview, within two to three months after the application deadline, and kept apprised of the outcome. 

Q. What should I do if my recommender did not receive an email from Embark?
A.
 Please ask the recommender to:

  • verify that the pop-up blocker is turned off on the computer
  • check the spam box in the email
  • write to Margaret McNamara Education Grants to request that individual link be resent. 

 

Terms and Conditions:

  • The applicant must not be related to a World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund, or Inter-American Development Bank staff member or spouse.
  • For the Trinity University Washington Grant, the applicant must not be related to Trinity staff.
